Seal Party brings you a mesmerizing new album titled‘MMVVII’, The sprawling work features Rock, Soul, and R&B elements, combining great writing and musicianship with a style that is at once playful and rebellious.
San Francisco, California – January 5, 2022 – Seal Party is the new project by Kevin Seal (keyboards/vocals) and Chris McGrew (drums/production), which features a cast of stellar guest musicians. The project, built on 25 years of writing and touring together, searches for joy in response to these uncertain times. The first two sides of their debut will be released worldwide on April 6th, 2022 via Bandcamp, and singles are already available on streaming platforms. The all-star band features punk icon Larry Boothroyd (Victims Family, Jello Biafra & the Guantanamo School of Medicine) and guitar legends Jon Axtell (Psychefunkapus) and Kelyn Crapp.
Stretching across genre boundaries, MMXXII mixes jazz luminaries and punk stalwarts to create a perfect blend for each song. Filled with improvisation, fury, and lyrical beauty, the record evokes ‘70s soul and R&B while maintaining a raw and exploratory approach. Whether drawing inspiration from Bobby Womack, D’Angelo or St. Vincent, the sounds are certain to delight.
Cameos from Uriah Duffy (Fantastic Negrito) and Ben Misterka take the adventurous “Serenella” into another dimension, and the anthemic protest song “Elijah McClain” gets a lift from Renee Padgett’s searing vocals. Rich Armstrong (Boz Scaggs, Jazz Mafia) and Daniel Casares (The New Mastersounds, Atta Kid) deliver classic-feeling horn arrangements, and an appearance by R&B organ wizard Chris Rob (Stevie Wonder, Kanye West) brings “Maison” to a soulful, timeless place. Mixed by McGrew with help by assistant engineer Liam Craddock, the album champions Kevin Seal’s vocals and balances on Chris McGrew’s expansive drumming and production. Writing and recording at Wally’s Hyde Out in the legendary Hyde Street Studios has inspired Seal Party to create something truly special.
