Disabled Songwriter Produces Song About Body Positivity

Salt Lake City, Utah — Russell Greer, a budding songwriter with a facial disability, has produced a new song entitled, “Yo, Yovanna!” While the namesake of the song is about model Yovanna Ventura, the song is much more than the stereotypical song about a guy singing about his crush.

“The song focuses on the positive attributes of a person and encourages the said person to continue being who they are,” Greer explains. Having a disability, Greer shares that it took a while to be comfortable in his own skin. He still deals with bullies and judgment. But despite his hardships, Greer wants to share his positivity with others through this song. “The song isn’t just about Yovanna — it‘s also about the listeners accepting themselves, with the lyrical hook, ‘you keep being you.’”

Another goal that Greer has with the song is to bring attention to the lack of diversity with disabled people in the entertainment industry. He hopes that a publisher or an agent will see this song and that it can open doors. Greer says that it would mean a lot to him to be an example to others to show that challenges can be overcome.

Teasingly, Greer’s ultimate goal, though, is to impress Yovanna Ventura. However, he jokes, “I won’t set my hopes too high.”

Russell Greer is a disabled songwriter who is claiming Las Vegas as his new home next month. By day, he works as a professional, office job. However, after 5 PM, he writes pop music and is trying to have an established artist pick up his music.
