"A Story of Two Teenagers"

There were once two teenagers, who were best buddies. One was called Dave and one was called Chuck.  They grew up in the same small mid-west town and they shared one overriding passion — making music. But they grew apart and lost touch once they went to different colleges and it was not until about fifteen years later they happened to meet up again in a Manhattan restaurant. By now, Chuck was a highly successful music superstar enjoying rave reviews every time he released a new recording. He had homes in Malibu and Switzerland and his concert tours took him to countries around the world. Meanwhile, Dave was the waiter who served his cocktail. So what made the difference? Chuck was savvy enough to know his limitations and realized that making music was his skill — not marketing. So he very wisely had a specialist company help him with marketing his brand right from the start. But Dave thought his music was so good he didn’t need any marketing help and eventually when the brutal truth dawned, he was penniless. He reluctantly gave up all his dreams of becoming a rock star, settling instead for a life of ‘just getting by’ on minimum wage. No beautiful homes in Malibu and Switzerland for him – just a rented room in the Bronx. Of course the names and facts have been made up, but the situation has certainly happened before and the moral of the story is that you can’t do it all by yourself.
