Very few people have the opportunity to play professional Major League Baseball. Amongst that group, the list of pitchers that sustain a career threatening injury after going  through Tommy John Surgery to return to the mound and still be effective is very short. Friedel Pinkston is living that story today.

For most people, the story would end here and you would see them grovel in their touch of success and revert to depression but this story is different. Not only is Pinkston working his way back into the Major Leagues, but he is also using the idle time to focus on his other talents involving music.

Meet Friedel Pinkston, but in the music community he is known as Sy Yung.

Being in music isn’t something unfamiliar to Sy Yung. Having worked on promotions teams for Young Jeezy, Bow Wow, Snoop, Ciara, Usher, and many more; and then following that up with collaborating and networking side by side with YC, Wale, Frenchie Montana, Gucci, Waka Flocka and many more, music is just as much a part of Sy Yung and baseball is a part of Friedel Pinkston.

Being able to juggle the two, in addition to being a father, community activist, and positive role model is not an easy task, but Sy Yung takes it all in stride.

“When, not if, I get back into the league, I want to win the official Cy Young award. And in the meantime I will build my musical career to the level that I will earn the name that I took and be the ‘Sy Yung’ of rap. A lot of people talk about being the best in their field, I’m on a m ission to be it”, states Sy Yung.In this economy with all of the negative recession talk, gangs, crime, drugs, and the other everyday stresses that people have to deal with, there are very few African American males that can be seen as a positive role model, a father figure, a respected entertainer, a major league baseball player and an established promoter.
