Over 99% of LWPF (LCD window protection films) are made of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) frequently used by beverage bottles.
PET film is also a good optical material as it is easy to make and cheap.

HYPOLA-APS are NOT made of PET but rather made from PMMA (Hard Acrylic that is the same used by airplane windows)

The coating technology is what makes it so tough.
Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is a transparent thermoplastic often used as a lightweight or shatter-resistant alternative to glass. Additionally, PMMA does not contain the potentially harmful bisphenol-A subunits found in polycarbonate.

PMMA can achieve high scratch and impact resistance.
